Look maa, am Web 2.0 compliant

I often mention Web 2.0 nowadays. Whatever website i visit on the net, i check if it has what it takes to be Web 2.0 compliant. I then turn into Andreas and try to convience him that Web 2.0 exists! Well it’s like the next big thing on the net. Everything MUST be Web 2.0 now. Every website must have round corners, huge fonts, enough whitespace, pretty colors, a nice logo with a “BETA” warning below and ofcourse a badge of some kind. Lets not forget the cool effects from the usual suspects out there and the extensive use of AJAX, even if not needed. I must admit at this point that i followed these principles as well on AJAXilicious and i am using them on the new look of my blog! I must say, i do love the way Web 2.0 became. Let me explain myself.

<Irony follows below. Read with caution>
The thing is that this new trend makes the web a more accesible place. Even for your children. I mean the huge buttons help a child to click on the ‘BUY PORN NOW’ link and the pastel colors promote the innosence and the purity of a site. As for the whitespace it just helps the webdevelopers to write less code/text. This keeps the visitor happy because the less he reads, the less he gets tired off a page. The huge fonts serve the same purpose and also simulate the computer interfaces that Hollywood keeps trying to implement in our lives. You know, in every computer in the movies, no matter what application is running, there are always those huge, smooth, round corned fonts! There is a pretty good reason for that as well! EVERYONE CAN READ IT! I mean, no matter where you are, you can read what it says on the monitor. Same thing in Web 2.0! There is no reason in sitting in front of your pc. You can simply lay on the bed and by using your wireless keyboard/mouse you can browse the web. So Web 2.0 helps preventing any future damage to your eyes. (Take a pause to thank Web 2.0..ok..lets continue now). The highlights of this new trend are the badges. No matter what the website is offering a badge must be placed on a visible place to promote..erm..anything! The badges where usualy used in commercials and on various products just to highlight some of its strong features. Similar purpose is for Web 2.0. There the badges exist to say that a web site has a specific feature or something new that you must see or use! Again its all about promoting something! Finaly there is AJAX. Imagine the web without it! Its like living in a Web 2.0 world without 1.0 point! It would be pretty dull. Imagine that you would have to wait 2 extra seconds for the full page to load.

The thing is that all these Web 2.0 ideas got into our lives pretty good. For example, a couple of days ago Andreas pointed a bottle of water next to me and said, ‘Look, the water company got a redesign too! A more Web 2.0 look’. You could see that clearly he was right! Everything was there. The fonts, the colors even the whitespaces! It was missing something though. The nice badge! I then fix that by making the bottle of water valid for Web 2.0 (including its XHTML and CSS)! Also the bottle of water had some AJAX running..You could drink water from it without even opening the bottle!
<Irony ends here>

Anyway i think you got my point. The whole Web 2.0 started as a bunch of new ideas and concepts and looks like its turning into a cult. As i said earlier, i do like these new ideas and i do promote them! But somewhere in between it got out of hand. Lets just wait and see where this whole movement is heading..

Also Web 2.0.1 was just leaked on the net, look for a torrent on the known places.
