Transformers by Michael Bay: Not bad as expected - My childhood years are not destroyed.

A couple of days ago I went with a couple of friends to watch the new Transformers movie. We were all aware of the Transformers legacy and owned a couple of them toys when we were younger; well, everybody except my girlfriend. She just came along due to the fact that I was so psyched, i HAD to see it! I was on Starbucks on another town when I found out that the movie was playing in Cyprus before the official US release (4th of July). We drove straight from there back home directly to the local cineplex where it was playing.

I remember when I first found about the movie, I blogged about it straight away. At that time though I thought that Steven Spielberg would direct it. When I found out that it was on Michael Bay’s hands I was a bit concern. I was really anxious to see if Micheal Bay would bring what everybody expected and deliver a real box office movie. Apparently he did deliver a really good movie and I was really amazed.

The plot was not completely perfect but it was quite good. The movie started slowly and eventually ended up with big explosions and really cool video/sound effects. The cast was good and the new kid, Sam (Shia LaBeouf) was good. Not OScar-good but good for his role. Mikaela (Megan Fox) was also good but I guess her role was just to play a pretty face in the movie.

On the robots side on the other hand, Optimus Prime sounded exactly as he should. His voice was perfect and that was thank to Peter Cullen. The rest of the Autobots made a really good team and they all blended together as a team. As for Megatron, he had a really small part in terms of dialogue but you could see that he was a really bad-ass! The whole Decepticons squad were really ugly-looking-alien-like robots and you could easily tell that these guys were not the ‘friendly like’ villains from the 80’s cartoon. The robots were nothing like the 80’s cartoon and that was due to the fact that almost 20 years have passed since the first Transformers appearance so they had to upgrade them with today’s standards. They did look like robotic organisms with really advance technology. They made sure though to make the robots’ faces to resemble the original characters. As for their transformations, Michael Bay also made sure to have them look like today’s cars/planes/devices. Except from Megatron who ended up being a really fast and deadly alien aircraft.

The movie did got my attention the whole time. I couldn’t stop watching and I even wanted to see more when it ended. I was so excited that it ended up being so good, even if the characters were a bit changed. Some fans say that the director destroyed the whole Transformers legacy. Well, I totally disagree. The movie was awesome and I’d like to thank Michael Bay for keeping my childhood safe and reviving the younger me.
